An ICT expert, Mr. Gimba Mohammed, has called on the Federal Government to amend the Cybercrime Act in order to tackle the country’s cyber crime and security challenges.

Mohammed, the Head of Regional Business for MainOne, a Nigerian firm, made the call on Sunday in Abuja in an interview with the News agency of Nigeria (NAN).

To effectively tackle the country’s cyber crime and cyber security challenges, he said there was the need to amend the Act in response to the current challenges.

Cyber security is not something you take with levity.

Deliberate efforts must be made by the key players such as Office of the National Security Adviser, law enforcement agencies and the Office of Accountant General of the Federation,’’ he said.

Mohammed said that MainOne was a partner with government in tackling cyber security issues, adding that it had participated in various initiatives to increase awareness on the evils of cyber terrorism.

He also said that MainOne, had invested millions of dollars to bringing the benefits of ICT to Nigerians.

The expert further said that the company had enhanced broadband proliferation across Nigeria and West Africa.

Describing MainOne as Nigeria-focused , he said the company had been the largest backer of the start-up and social entrepreneurship community in the country.

We have been the backbone behind groups such as CCHub, Andela and 440NG which provide solutions to social issues leveraging on technology.

These groups have generated opportunities for Nigerians via direct and indirect employment as well as stimulation of ancillary industries among others,’’ he said.
