Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State will speak at the 2018 edition of the United Nations International Youth Day celebration in Lagos on August 11.

Organised by Rise Networks, the event holds at the Blue Roof, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, as part of the 2018 Lagos Youth Week that started on August 6.

Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, the founder of Rise Networks, a social entrepreneur and human development expert whose work cuts across education, youth development and leadership, is among the speakers.

Others include Ola Brown, founder, Flying Doctors Nigeria, West Africa’s first Air Ambulance Service; Akin Oyebode, executive secretary, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund; and Rotimi Williams, founder, Kereksuk Farms, the second largest rice farm in Nigeria.

The conference covers the 20 councils of Lagos with between 50,000 and 100,000 students, young professionals, and young entrepreneurs in attendance, to be accommodated in the free exhibition and a debate on the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill.

It is designed as a leadership platform to recognise the key roles of the enterprising and courageous Lagos youths who strive daily to serve in various capacities, making the state the fifth largest economy in Africa.

The organisers, supported by Lagos State, believe that the events will serve as pivotal reminders of the intelligence, innovation and creativity of youths and the steady progress Lagos has made by mainstreaming them, creating platforms for their empowerment and strengthening their roles in shaping Africa’s future.
