Ambode, others seek oriented PPP strategy for infrastructural growth

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday called for a more efficient and resulted oriented strategy in the development of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in infrastructural development in the country.

Speaking at the 10th yearly PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors lecture with the theme: “The role of Public Private Partnership in infrastructural development,” in Lagos, the governor said the state has effectively explored the PPP model in the delivery of critical infrastructure that have made significant impact on the socio-economic growth of the state.

Some of the success stories, he said, could be seen in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) that has continued to make tremendous impact in the public transportation system, the ongoing Eko Atlantic project and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

Ambode, whose speech was read by his deputy, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule said the state is determined to continue to explore the PPP model particularly in areas such as road network expansion, transportation, housing and environment.

He said Lagos has identified some critical projects to be implemented through collaboration with the private sector, which includes the 4th Mainland Bridge, the Okokomaiko road expansion project, Oko-Oso-Itoikin road dualisation and Ikorodu-Agbowa- Itoikin-Ijebu-Ode road projects.

For the Chairman of the occasion and Chief Executive Officer, Chapel Hill Denham, Mr. Bolaji Balogun, Nigeria will need between $20-$30 billion over the next decade to overcome her infrastructural challenges.

The Senior Partner, PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors, Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN), said the choice of the theme was borne out the dire socio-economic need for Nigeria’s infrastructural development.
