Initiative For Conciliation and Right Protection has called on the federal government to allow the leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, to seek medical attention abroad.

The civil society group at a press conference in Abuja yesterday condemned the continued detention of the religious leader, whose healthy they said was deteriorating. It called on well-meaning Nigerians and world leaders to wade into the matter.

An expatriate, who reportedly examined El-Zakzaky, had recommended foreign medical attention for him.

The group, led by Geoffrey Netochukwu, with Godwin Ekoja, Bala Hassan, Ahmad Isa and Adelaja Adeoye as members, said the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) stipulated clearly that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights,” and no one shall be subjected to cruel treatment.
