THE Head of the Civil Service in Akwa Ibom, Mrs. Ekerebong Akpan has warned workers to steer clear of partisan politics, stressing that anyone found wanting would be shown the way out of service.

Akpan, who gave the warning yesterday while speaking with reporters in Uyo, said the directive has become expedient as she was on a mission to make the civil service efficient and more committed to service delivery, stressing that such may not be possible if civil servants were involved in partisan politics.

The HoS, who had served as permanent secretary in different ministries, described the civil service as the engine room government, charging the civil servants to work enthusiastically and diligently so that Governor Udom Emmanuel could realise his lofty dreams for the people of the state.

Described by many workers as ‘core civil servant,’ Akpan stressed that she would enforce work ethics to the letter so that workers did their jobs effectively by adhering strictly to rules and regulations guiding the service.

Meanwhile, the state House of Assembly has elected the member representing Nsit Ubium constituency, Onofiok Luke, as its new Speaker.
The move followed the recent nullification by the Appeal Court of the election of former occupant, Aniekan Uko who represented Ibesikpo/Asutan constituency.
