Akwa Ibom Government has announced dates for reopening of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state. A statement, yesterday, by the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, a lawyer, said primary schools would reopen tomorrow.

He said: “Primary schools are to commence processes for the resumption of schools for Primary Six pupils only on September 21,2020, to prepare them for the Common Entrance (exit examinations). Additionally, the government will make facemasks available to all Primary Six pupils, only at resumption.

“Public secondary schools to reopen on September, 28, 2020 while, private secondary schools are to commence their processes for resumption tomorrow, provided they comply with the COVID-19 protocol and review same with parents.

“Akwa Ibom State University and College of Education, Afaha Nsit will commence the processes of resumption on September 21, 2020.

“Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua will resume on October 5, 2020…” Reacting, Proprietor of Ritman College and Ritman Group of Schools, Ikot Ekpene, and member of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Akwa Ibom State chapter, Senator Ibiok Emmanuel Essien commended the state for the decision to reopen schools.

He said the state Ministry of Education had earlier given schools guidelines for reopening.
Essien urged everyone to adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines and protocols not to prevent contracting the virus.
