EMINENT indigenes of Akure Kingdom have declared their resolve not to tolerate any action that will bring the ancient city to disrepute once again, insisting that Prince Adepoju Adesina remains deposed as the Deji of Akure.

This assertion was made during a press conference by the illustrious sons and daughters led by the Asiwaju of Akure, Prof. Oluwadare Agbi, while condemning the recent rally to garner support for the deposed monarch.

Agbi said it has become necessary to distance themselves from the incident, which saw the former traditional ruler of Akure, Prince Adepoju Adesina, led a protest march to upturn the peace and tranquility Akure has been known for.

According to him: “The implications of Adepoju Adesina’s action of that day are not lost on us. As the Yorubas will say ‘Oba meji kii gbe lu,’ (two kings don’t reign in a town). What Adepoju did on that day is tantamount to saying that Akure has two kings.

“Never! Adepoju Adesina has been deposed and it will remain so. Akure must continue to know peace and development. Akure must continue to witness growth and progress. We will not tolerate any action that will bring Akure to disrepute once again,” Agbi said.

The ambassador recalled that the reign of the deposed Deji brought untold and unprecedented embarrassment to the entire Akure community.
