Surprised by the claim made by Dr. Ado Ahmed, President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) branch, that doctors in the hospital have been receiving only 25 percent of their salary, the acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe has dismissed the claim as untrue and unsubstantiated.

In an interview with The Guardian, Dr. Sheshe debunked the claim, saying all doctors in the hospital receive full salary without any reduction whatsoever.

“They receive 100 per cent salary. Maybe what they are referring to is the payment of skipping, which is enjoyed mostly by junior doctors. It is simply part of an ongoing issue in the salary structure and has been going on for about three years now,” said the acting CMD.

He explained that in August 2015, an agreement was reached between the hospital management and doctors, through an intervention by a delegation from the House of Representatives led by Honourable Magaji Dau Aliyu.

Sheshe said. “The meeting took into consideration the financial condition of the hospital and as such considered an offer or payment of 25 percent that was made to the association for tabling before its congress.

“We don’t have any problem with doctors in our hospital. And looking at the number of doctors we have, one should not compare us with Dala Orthopaedic Hospital, in the area of meeting financial obligations before getting everything done from the budget. People should treat us with all sense of fairness.”
