The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the November 26, 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, says he would run a people-centred government if elected.

He spoke yesterday when addressing party members and supporters who trooped out to welcome him at the party’s state secretariat in Akure. “Whatever the challenges, we shall overcome without any fear because of our belief and trust in God. We have character and integrity to bring good governance to the state.

“Ondo State APC delegates in their wisdom voted for me to become the candidate of our great party and by the grace of God, APC will win Ondo State,” he remarked.

The former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), who was declared winner of the September 3 primary election, lauded the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for their commitment, adding that “the change has started in Ondo State.”

Meanwhile, some youth leaders across the three senatorial districts have kicked against Akeredolu’s candidacy. In a communiqué signed by Deputy State Youth Leader, Sheed Lateef, at the end of their meeting yesterday in Akure, they begrudged the overruling of the appeal committee report by the NWC.

“We are surprised when we learnt that the national chairman overruled the majority of the NWC who had voted in support of the recommendations of the appeal committee,” they alleged.

Also yesterday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) denied trading off its gubernatorial candidates in Edo and Ondo states for the resolution leadership tussle between the caretaker chairman, Ahmed Makarfi and his rival, Ali Modu Sheriff.

The denial followed rumours that Osagie Ize-Iyamu and replaced Eyitayo Jegede had been replaced by consensus candidates to facilitate the peace talks.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, who was responding to the speculation, reaffirmed their candidature.

“The Accord Party chieftain’s supporters took to the social media to announce that the Edo governorship candidature had been ceded to the Makarfi leadership while Ondo’s was given to the Sheriff faction with Jimoh Ibrahim, being Sheriff’s friend, named the beneficiary of the alleged Ondo swap.“It is totally false. There is no trade off of any kind. Such a rumour should be totally ignored,” he said.
