Akeredolu laments state of poverty as club donates items to PHC, pregnant women

The District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, Dr. Jide Akeredolu, has lamented the level of poverty in Nigeria, which according to him appears to be the highest in the world.

He further bemoaned the standard of living of many Nigerians, adding that there were indices that measures being taken by the government to bail people out of poverty are inadequate.

He made the observation during his visit to the Rotary Club of Onigbongbo, where he commended the club for their gesture to Onigbongbo Primary Health Centre, where the facility and some pregnant women and those with children were given treated mosquito nets, plastic chairs, cotton wool, fridge, among others.

He said humanitarian organisations that are partnering with the government to lift citizens out of poverty should be commended while challenging prominent Nigerians to be their brothers’ keepers by giving hope to the less privileged ones around them.

Present during the presentation of the items was president of the club, Rtn. Olajide Ajayi; Adele Oba of Onigbongbo, High Chief Tajudeen Ajao-Irawo; and members of the club. Ajayi promised to donate a chemistry lab worth N3,550,000 to a secondary school in the area and construct an ICT lab during his service year.
