Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has sent a list of 14 commissioner-nominees to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.

The governor also sent a list of eight other persons that would constitute the state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

Confirming the development, the governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, said: “They should be confirmed in the next few days,’ adding that the nominees are people who ‘have public respect and are apolitical.”

Meanwhile, government has debunked insinuations that its new policy direction on education is aimed at privatising its secondary schools.

At a news conference by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Yomi Layinka, in Ibadan yesterday, he clarified that the proposed partnership with stakeholders would not lead to retrenchment of teachers.

Layinka said the Ajimobi government would not take any decision that would be against the overriding interest of the public.
