Afejuku takes Ukala’s ‘Skeletons’ to Harvard

Versatile University of Benin, Edo State teacher, scholar and poet, Professor Tony Afejuku, has delivered a well received lecture at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States on the work of another equally distinguished Nigerian don, intellectual and writer, Professor Sam Ukala.

The latter is a Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka teacher.

The occasion was the 41st annual get-together of select scholars of the World Phenomenology Institute which held at the Harvard University Faculty Club. Phenomenologists, philosophers and literary scholars from different parts of the world were at the global event.

Afejuku’s lecture centred on the phenomenological and ethical dimensions of Ukala’s ‘Skeletons’, his collection of short stories, incidentally the only Nigerian and African writing that received attention at the event.

In past years Afejuku had spoken on the works of such distinguished Nigerian men of letters like Romanus Egudu, Ezenwa-Ohaeto, Niyi Osundare, Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe, and other acclaimed African writers.

And some of such lectures have appeared in the highly prestigious Analecta Husserliana, while others (on Osundare) are forthcoming in the equally highly rated Phenomonological Inquiry and Analecta Husserliana.

Afejuku is expected back home shortly after concluding other academic and intellectual engagements.
