Human Rights Lawyer, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa yesterday berated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its stance on the issuance of certificate to Governor Rochas Okorocha, saying it has no legal basis.

INEC had on Thursday denied Okorocha’s certificate of return as duly elected senator representing Owerri North senatorial zone in the recent general elections on the basis of its official confession that he was declared winner under duress. Reacting, Adegboruwa said only other option now is for the aggrieved to go to the Election Petitions Tribunal.

“I urge INEC to present certificate to Okorocha. INEC has no power to determine the fate of a candidate already declared winner of an election. That will be tantamount to usurping the will of the people”, he added.

On the directive by the state’s governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha to banks on the state’s account, the right activist said, Ihedioha, being a Governor-elect, cannot be doling out directives to banks and giving marching orders against a sitting government.
