Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State

Embattled Adamawa state Governor Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow, is enveloped in another controversy, as some chieftains of his party the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) are calling for his suspension from the party, pending the outcome of the investigations of a picture that went viral on social media showing the governor collecting bribe from a foreign official of a road construction firm in the state.

The governor who is yet to recover from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogation of several of his commissioners including his Finance commissioner Alhaji Mahmoud Sali, over financial irregularities, is now facing another financial allegation exposed via social media.

Some chieftains of Adamawa APC have asked the party leadership to suspend the governor and invite EFCC to probe the over five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) bribe captured on camera. Bindow, the permanent secretary ministry of works, Suleiman Mohammed, and a road construction foreign manager were seen in the picture handing over bundles of dollars to the governor in Bindow’s sitting room.

Alhaji Abubakar Mubi Usman, a chieftain of APC from the governor’s hometown said that the party cannot folds its hands and watch corrupt practices take over APC when the party is championing the rule of law. He said that since the picture went viral, government didn’t react, this he said confirms that the picture is true.

Another APC chieftain, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, described the silence of the governor and his media team as not only embarrassing, but that it has vindicated the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) accusations of corruption.

Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Mathins Dickson, told journalists that the picture was photoshopped to indict his boss.
