Accident kills 13 people in Bauchi
Thirteen people have been reported killed as a result of a fatal road accident, while five passengers sustained various degrees of injuries at Busuri village along Bulkachuwa in Dambam Local Council of Bauchi State.
The accident, which occurred last Friday, was a head on collision involving a blue Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AQ 79 AKR Ondo and a white Iveco truck with Registration Number XB 907 GWL Kano, according to Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Haruna.
He said the driver was a 28-year-old man from Bulkachuwa town and the accident occurred when the two vehicles, which were coming from opposite directions, suddenly collided and 13 passengers died instantly while five sustained various degrees of injuries.
DSP Haruna said policemen attached to Azare Division rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare for medical attention and 13 were certified dead by a medical doctor and their corpses deposited at the mortuary for postmortem examination, while others are receiving treatment.
He said the deceased identified include Sule Abubakar, 28, of Bulkachuwa, Buba Shuibu Uba, 30, from Doleri village, Ibrahim Mohammed, 25, Yusuf Busuri, 17, and Sadik Bello, 20, all from Busuri. Others casualties include Yahai Suleiman, 30, Hudu Isah, 30, from Kafinta, Haruna Yusuf, 15, Sale Waziri, 50, Yahai Manini, 40, all from Busuri, while two corpses are yet to be identified.
He said the Command was making serious efforts to locate their families, while calling on the general public whose relatives traveled on the aforementioned vehicles to check the hospital for identification.
