Abia journalists set agenda for Ikpeazu’s second term

Abia State-based Journalists have told governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who has been re-elected for a second term in office, to see his return as a renewed mandate to consolidate the gains and successes recorded in his first term in office.

The journalists under the platform of the Correspondents Chapel of the Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) tasked the governor to run an all-inclusive administration and tap from the knowledge, talents, expertise and manifestoes of his opponents, in the overall interest of the state. 

The Chapel in a statement issued by comrades Sam Obinna and Steve Oko as chairman and secretary respectively congratulated all victors in the election in the state. “This is another opportunity for the governor to deliver more democracy dividends to Abians and post more legendary achievements for posterity. We urge him to see the entire state as his constituency, irrespective of the voting pattern during the polls”.

To other elected persons to national and state legislatures, the Chapel, stated that they should see their success at the poll as an opportunity to serve the people and leave indelible legacies on the sands of time.

The Chapel envisages that if these leaders place selfless and quality service to the people above parochial and personal gains, Abia and Nigeria would be a better place, adding that with the electioneering over, Abians expect delivery on campaign promises that would positively impact on their lives and development of the state.

Similarly, the Chapel appealed to unsuccessful candidates at the polls to accept defeat in the spirit of sportsmanship, as they the need to put the past behind and move on.

While the Chapel hopes to do its best to lend support and offer constructive criticism where necessary for the growth and development of the state, it implored Abians to rally round these present leaders and give them all the support and cooperation they would need to succeed.
