The new Director General (DG) of Abia State Marketing and Quality Management Agency, Mr. Sam Hart has tasked producers of goods and services in the state to comply with the set quality standards or risk being prosecuted.

Hart told The Guardian that the Agency, created by a state law of 2015, with the mandate to expand existing markets for Abia-made products and services, create new ones and ensure that proper processes are followed in their production to ensure quality standards compliance.

He said: “This agency has been mandated to ensure that products and services distributed in the state do not fall below the standards set by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), as well as, other internationally accepted standards.”

Hart, who added that his agency had set into motion measures to rid Abia State of substandard products and services, hinted that it would be conducting impromptu checks in eateries, factories and industries in the state to ensure that what they produce, sell and serve meet the set quality standards.
