80, 000 Nigerians dying annually from cancer, expert warns

A consultant at Lagoon Hospitals, Dr. Oluwagbemiga Dorojaiye has raised an alarm on the high mortality among cancer patients in the country, saying 80, 000 die annually.

According to him, 100,000 Nigerians are diagnosed with cancer annually, and about 80,000 die from the disease, averaging 240 every day or 10 every hour.

He stated this at a Cancer Day awareness programme organised by Ovie Brume foundation in partnership with Lagoon hospital, George Kerry Life Foundation and Xcene Research at Tarkwa Bay, an Island community in Eti Osa Local Council of Lagos state.

Dorojaiye who said the Nigerian cancer death ratio of 4 in 5 is one of the worst in the whole world.
