DSS seeks collaboration in fight against insurgency
WITH the scourge of insurgency ravaging parts of the North East these past six years, the Department of State Services (DSS) has appealed for more collaborative effort among all security agencies, stakeholders, and the general public in other to end terrorism and attain relative peace in the country.
The Gombe State Director of DSS, Mr. Reuben Shina Amao, who made the call during the opening of a two-day security business workshop organised by the department in collaboration with Gombe State government with the theme: “Sustaining the relative peace in Gombe State and the role of security agencies in winning the confidence of the citizenry to achieve peace” lamented that insecurity and terrorism had been of major concern in the state.
Noting that the northeast sub region and indeed the world as a whole is under the shadow of terrorists and insurgency, Amao stressed the need for collaborative effort in other to overcome the trend.
“We must therefore not only remain united, we must strive to consolidate the peace we are enjoying. Defeating terrorism is a collective task that must be done, we must not be distracted, and we must remain focused and vigilant.”
According to him, despite many attacks that have successfully carried out by the insurgents in the past, the security agencies through collaborative effort have been able to avert many planned attacks in the state.
Amao further said that, the workshop was organized towards bringing together all stakeholders with the aim to discuss on how to ensure better relationships, foster synergy between security agencies and the public, discuss issues relating to roles of the security agencies, as well as proffer solutions to security threats in the state.
