440,000 candidates write JAMB exams on day two

Rampaging LAUTECH students shut out UTME candidates
About 440, 000 candidates sat for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board test entered its second day yesterday.

The Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this to newsmen, during a tour of the examination centres in Abuja.

Oloyede disclosed that the examination would end in Bauchi, Abia and Niger states yesterday, while it would continue in Kebbi, Lagos, Oyo and other states.

He explained that the Computer-Based Test Centers, (CBT) in Delta State were under-utilised, adding that the Board would fully ensure that they were fully used for future exams.

The JAMB Registrar warned that the ongoing strike at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State would affect the conduct of the examinations.

He said this might lead to a possible transfer of the candidates to another center at the University of Ilorin, because there are no private CBT centres at Ogbomosho.

Oloyede condemned the frequent strike in the country’s universities, saying it was destructive to the education system.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, who also monitored the exams commended the board for the smooth conduct.
