4.2m Nigerians face acute food insecurity

The food security situation report released by the World Food Programme and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has revealed that about 4.2 million people in Nigeria are currently faced with acute food insecurity

The Cadre Hamonise analysis of acute food insecurity situations carried out in 17 northern states, including Jigawa, Kano, Kastina, Kaduna, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Niger, Kebbi, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, Adamawa, Plateau, Sokoto, and the FCT, indicates that over four million Nigerians were at serious risk, adding that some 5.94 million people could be in danger between June and August 2020.

FAO Country Director, Suffyan Koroma, during the presentation of the October 2019 report for 16 states and the FCT yesterday in Abuja, observed that there had been significant improvement in the food security situation in the country.
