INEC fixed Wednesday to conclude the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in some polling units in five of the six Area Councils in territory where it cancelled polls on Saturday.

Affected area councils, according to INEC, are Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

It stated that while the chairmanship elections would be concluded in four area councils of Abaji, Gwagwalada, Kuje and AMAC, councillorship polls would hold in four area councils.

“A total of 39, 647 registered voters are expected to participate in tomorrow’s elections.

“The Wards are Gwargwada, Kwaku, Kuje Central, Chibiri, Gudunkarya, Rubochi, Yenche and Kabi.”

It added that the commission would also conclude chairmanship and councillorship elections in six wards and 14 polling units in AMAC.

The affected wards in AMAC, according to the bulletin, are Karu, Garki, Gwarinpa, Gui, Karshi and Nyanya, with a total of 15,363 voters expected to participate in the elections.

It stated that the Saturday exercise in the affected areas was cancelled due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), and the approved INEC guidelines and regulations.

“The elections were cancelled for three reasons namely: violence, over-voting and non-use of the Smart Card Reader (SCR),” it said.
