3 men in court for allegedly demanding N5m ransom

court.jpg-citynewsThe police on Tuesday arraigned three men in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly threatening a man to pay N5million ransom.

The three accused persons- Usman Abubakar, Ismaila Uthman and Aliyu Mohamadu, all of Lambata Area, Abuja, were arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and criminal intimidation.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Monday Akor, told the court that One Ibrahim Mohammed of Zuru, Lambata Area, wrote a petition, dated June 20 to the AIG Zone 7 Headquarter, Abuja.

Akor said that the accused persons in the letter warned the complainant that if he fails to pay the N5 million, his entire family will be eliminated.

He said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 397 of the Penal Code.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations levelled against them.

The Magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum, and adjourned the case till July 13, for hearing.
