20 aspirants eye Adeleke’s senatorial seat

No fewer than 20 aspirants are jostling to occupy the Osun West senatorial seat vacated by the late first executive governor of the state, Isiaka Adeleke.

No fewer than 20 aspirants are jostling to occupy the Osun West senatorial seat vacated by the late first executive governor of the state, Isiaka Adeleke.

The senator died on April 23, 2017 and political activities had begun in earnest across all political parties to fill the position.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the by-election for July 8.

In a timetable released by its state Administrative Secretary, Ademusire E. A., the electoral umpire gave June 15 deadline for submission of forms while publication of forms and submission of candidates get June 22 and 30 ultimatum.

The notable All Progressives Congress (APC) contenders include the younger brother to the deceased, Ademola Adeleke, sibling to the party’s National Ex-officio, Akintola Omolaoye, the party’s state secretary, Ayobami Salinsile, while former Speaker Adejare Bello, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, Colonel Olayiwola Falabi (rtd) among others are in the race for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
