PDP Governor of Taraba, Darius Dickson Ishaku

Barely three days to the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, no fewer than 15 gubernatorial candidates of various political parties have stepped down for Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) towed the same path on Monday as its candidate, Adamu Danbako Ibrahim, quit the race to support the governor who is seeking reelection.

Led by Apostle Paul Yanji, the candidates said their decision to step down was based on the development projects embarked upon by Governor Ishaku.

Citing the peaceful co-existence among the various ethnic groups and security, which they said was ignited by Ishaku, the need for them to support him ahead of Saturday’s polls, they believed, could not be overstretched.

Reacting to the development, a visibly elated Ishaku said, “If democracy is to strive, political leaders must face the reality, adding that those who do not allow democracy to take place were inviting chaos and anarchy.

Meanwhile, a former Governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Seyi Makinde, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have collapsed their structures to battle All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bayo Adelabu.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Ibadan, Makinde, who was accompanied by Ladoja, Sarafadeen Alli of ZLP, Bolaji Ayorinde of SDP and Femi Lanlehin of ADC, said the party had resolved to work together to rescue the state from the APC.

He said, “It is no longer news that a good number of parties in Oyo State have deliberated over the last few weeks and have resolved that there is an urgent need to free our state from the shackles of oppression and domination.”

“We have, therefore, decided that to present an effective and workable solution to the situation where Oyo State has been remotely controlled for eight years by outside forces and all manner of constituted authority, there is the need to form this alliance.”
