This week was all about the old skool, with Dino Melaye resurrecting a traditional Yoruba song for his latest victory over Sahara Reporters and the cast of Bel Air reuniting and new reasons to play vintage video game Tetris. Meanwhile, pupils at school in SA showed they could beat their circumstances and Britain has some new lessons to learn as it breaks away from the EU. These are the stories which made our week…

Britain’s Out!

Britain triggered their exit from the EU this week.  It’s irreversible and now inevitable that Britain will go back to being an idiosyncratic, cloud-covered island of small-minded, navel-gazing, badly-dressed tea-drinkers with terrible food and a penchant for revelling in past glories. Perhaps Britain will itself cease to exist as Scotland and Wales now consider their options.

The Senate’s got talent

Dance like no one’s watching they said. Sing like nobody’s listening. Do one thing every day that scares you they said. Well we are watching and we are listening and we are scared. Dino Melaye uploaded a clip of himself singing and dancing to celebrate being cleared of allegations relating to his education and NYSC. Aje ku iya ni oje, ajeku iya ni o je, eni ti o to eni no, ton de na de ni, translates as “you will be beaten mercilessly if you fight someone who is stronger than you”. Pele for his persecutors but he has talent sha!

Wizkid comes closer

Wizkid dropped a new single and a new blonde look this week amid much expectation. Come Closer featuring Drake is a new single under his new RCA deal, signed in March.  There’s been a lot of uncertainty around Nigeria’s biggest musical export since he struck out internationally. His last album was in 2014.  But world domination is indeed coming ever closer, we kid you not.

Tetris your trauma

Video games are supposed to be bad for you generally but Tetris, the rather basic, entry-level game that involves shunting blocks around the screen to stop them piling up, is supposed to have benefits. According to a new study it can lessen the psychological impact of traumatic events. The catch is that you have to play it within six hours of the traumatic event, which, let’s face it, sounds impractical and extremely odd.

Schooled on romance

Pity @Pabloayodeji who publicly insulted his date because she rejected him.  He probably didn’t forsee her spiritedly refunding his expenses and then #keepthechangebae going viral and then also being adopted by all manner of corporate entities so all his family members could see his behaviour.  Although he quickly apologised, he is probably still now being chastised by one auntie on the correct way to treat a lady. Well, hopefully. The course of true love really doesn’t run smooth.

In West Philadelphia born and raised…

Could it be? Is it really true? No, it’s not back, but the reunion photo of the cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air did send fans into a speculative frenzy. The popular show ran from 1990 – 1996 and made huge stars of some cast members, it would be missing Uncle Phil who died in 2013 if it did resume but people online have been begging Will Smith to take on that role.
