It seems competitions are in vogue, with tech battles and records and hearts being broken. Our star boy shines in London, Davido breaks a social media record, Diddy is making money and phones are bent on taking our money. Here are the stories that made our week…

Wizkid shuts down Royal Albert Hall

Our very own star boy made history last night as he became the first Nigerian artist to sell out the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London. The show, which was also being streamed via his Facebook Live page, hosted over 5,000 fans as he performed hits and crowd favourites. Except for Wizkid, Wande Coal was the other star to grace the stage. Following a great show, Wizzy vowed to shut down O2 Arena next year.

All hail King Diddy!

Save being the king of shade, Diddy has earned more bragging rights as he tops hip-hop’s highest-paid act of 2017, according to Forbes. This is due to high earnings from ventures like Ciroc vodka, DeLeon tequila, Aquahydrate water, his Bad Boy Reunion tour, and an estimated $70 million from his Sean John clothing line amounting to $130 million. Following in second and third place are Drake and Jay Z.

Battle of the phones

We were still psyched about the iPhone X and in the blink of an eye, Google has unveiled the second generation of its Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The first Google Pixel was a remarkable device, but the specifications of the Pixels 2 and 2 XL are giving the iPhones a run for their money. Samsung jumped on the wagon as they unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This time, they are making up for the explosive batch of phones released last year. Best part, none of these phones come cheap!

Las Vegas shooting

This mass shooting has set the record for killing over 60 people, leaving 400 people injured. This act of terrorism has gotten reactions from celebrities and people all over social media, majorly because of his race and the fact that he isn’t being treated as a terrorist. In this sad time, our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victims.

Omo Baba Insta!

Omo Baba Olowo is not just releasing hits back to back this year, he is also setting records as he has become the most followed Nigerian celebrity on Instagram with five million followers. The list also has Wizkid, Funke Akindele and Tiwa Savage falling in line respectively. In other news, Davido has been accused of murder by former Nollywood actress Caroline Danjuma. We guess he’s innocent until proven guilty!
