Okon Lagos Corrects Misconception He Justified Alleged Police Rape of Abuja Women
Popular Nigerian comic actor, Bishop Umoh better known by his alias, Okon Lagos has taken to social media to clarify an earlier statement concerning an allegation against Abuja policemen and rape of some women.
The actor who had yesterday, May 15 shared a video about the alleged rape was heard talking about protesters taking to the streets to fight back at the injustice of the alleged rape of the women arrested at a strip club.
Speaking about the rape, he said it is a wrong allegation because rape is taking away someone’s dignity which in this case, “Ashawo no get self-pride and dignity” so the case should be called theft and not rape. According to him, the policemen were only stealing the women’s product and merchandise and not rape.

He captioned the video,
“Both are criminal acts but different… Rape and Theft. There is a little of one in another #okonlagos #okonrepublic #iyammi #chisos #wosappen”
The video has generated backlash from Nigerians who accused the actor of justifying rape and in his reaction to this, he shared,
“It’s terrible when we give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Who justifies rape? Obviously not me. I think lots of people have problems with hearing and comprehension. Listen well again to the video I made. I never defended the animals that raped the girls. I only tried to open up another perspective to the crime they committed and that is robbery which attracts in most cases, instant death penalty by jungle justice while also condemning commercial sex hawking! Hear, Listen, Understand or shut up!!!”
It would be recalled that earlier last m0nth, the Nigerian police stormed a popular strip club, Caramelo Lounge and during the raid, some women alleged to be prostitutes and strippers were arrested. News later surfaced that the policemen allegedly raped these women using nylon as condoms and this sparked widespread criticism. The government has since demolished the club, weeks after the raid.
