The first few days after surgery are not exactly fun. Be it a minor or major surgery, your body will need a lot to recover. It needs to repair tissues and replace fluids in addition to healing from the actual surgery procedure.  According to, Jamie Logie, a personal trainer and bestselling author of Taking Back Your Health, the extra activity that occurs after surgery raises your metabolism and this may require additional essential calories and nutrients such as proteins and vitamins.

Jamie shares some meals that would take back your health (pun intended)

Bone-Broth-Recipe

You will probably not have much of an appetite the first few days after a surgery but this is when nourishing yourself is principal. A bone-broth-recipe will help promote strong healthy bones, heal lining of the cuts, reduce joint pain, and prevent infection and inflammation. The formula can be administered in meals like; your soups, stews and cereals. The amazing properties in these minerals (Iron, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Silicon, Trace minerals, Sulfur etc.) will hasten your healing process.

Consume Ample Protein

As muscle tissues are damaged or moved aside during surgery, your body instantly tries to repair and make new ones; this requires protein. Hormone and enzymes along with immune function and tissue recovery are reasons you would need ample protein. So add meat, fish, poultry, eggs, yogurt, beans and nuts to your meals and snacks to boost protein in addition to other great sources of protein.

Take the Right Vitamins

There are specific vitamins that are involved in healing. This includes; vitamin C which supports soft tissue (collagen) repair and vitamin E which serves as antioxidant defence. Here are sources for the right Vitamins; Citrus fruits, Strawberries, Brussels sprouts, Kiwi, Bell peppers, and Broccoli are great sources of vitamin C. However, check with your doctor or dietician to know if there is need to avoid gassy foods like apples, broccoli etc. Some people may require vitamin and mineral supplementation as suggested by their doctors, however, food sources are always the best place to start. Food sources of vitamin E include; wheat germ, almonds, sunflower seeds, peanuts and plant oils, these are great sources of Vit E.

Make Sure You’re Drinking Enough Water

Water aids in circulation, digestion and absorption of meals; more-so, now that your body is repairing worn out tissues. Water also helps regulate body temperature among many other things. In the case of healing, it is also involved in flushing toxins out of the body. When you’ve had surgery you’ve been exposed to a lot foreign radicals in your body that you probably want to get out. Water helps to flush out and cleanse, keeping you hydrated as your body heals through smoothly. Find the purest form of water and drink more.

In addition to the above, try to eliminate inflammatory foods. Avoid those foods that cause more inflammation in the body since your immune system is still under recuperation and you want to be careful not to give it more work than it can already handle. These toxic elements include: Trans fats, refined carbohydrates, corn syrup, added sugar, vegetable oils, high fructose, white pasta, bread and rice.

You will be missing out nothing by not consuming these foods, which will be better off in the long run.
