Nigerian American rapper Wale has pledged to host Nollywood film stars Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, better known as Aki and Pawpaw respectively, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Wale tweeted on Tuesday that he “Can’t wait to bring Aki and PawPaw to ellen show”.

Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme rose to stardom and their brand characters Aki and Pawpaw became household names overnight after playing the lead roles in the 2002 Nigerian comedy film “Aki na Ukwa”. The duo has since then featured in many films.

The duo especially Osita’s character (Pawpaw) has been trending through memes since 2019 in Twitter and other social media platforms globally. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty featured a clip of Pawpaw as a meme for it’s product in 2019.

Wale’s promise to feature Aki and Pawpaw on the Ellen show comes as he has put forward his name for consideration to replace Ellen DeGeneres as the host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the wake of the controversy that has embroiled the American daytime television variety comedy talk show.

On July 16, 2020, an article on BuzzFeed News was posted in which 10 anonymous former employees accused the show of promoting a toxic work environment. Accusations included firing after taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend family funerals, as well as racist comments and microaggressions by staff.

One employee stated, “That ‘be kind’ bullsh*t only happens when the cameras are on. It’s all for show. I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for show.”

In July, WarnerMedia launched a probe into the complaints about the work conditions of the daytime talk show.

In his bid as a host, Wale said:

“I’m very eloquent and loquacious… I’m only slightly problematic but tv needs a lil razzle dazzle .. my Rolodex is sturdy. I think I provide an informative entertaining brand of chaos day time TV deserves . So again please.. let me host da show”

Wale whose full name is Olubowale Victor Akintimehin also offered to serve “super hot asun to the Oyingbo..” on the show.
