Summer time is here, schools are on vacation and the kids are home. Now, how do you engage the kids this long holiday? We believe that one of the best ways to engage your kids is to allow them to travel and explore. According to The Telegraph, travelling makes your kids smarter and happier. Other benefits include helping them socialise better as well as making new friends.

However, travelling is not limited to going outside the country. In fact, it is better to start at home. Think ‘stay-cation’! To that effect, we have created a list of seven places you can take the kids this holiday:

1. Apapa Amusement Park

Visiting a fun park is a no brainer and the amusement park in Apapa gives them all the thrill with rides like the carousel, pirate ship, bumper cars and more. They also have indoor rides including a 7D cinema experience, and smaller rides and arcade games for the younger kids.

2. Kids Beach Garden

Who knew there was a beach for just kids in Lagos? Well, now you know. Kids’ Beach Garden is the first sustainable beach in Nigeria where children can learn about and give back to the environment while having fun.

3. LUFASI Nature Park

LUFASI is an urban forest conservation center dedicated to connecting people with nature. At LUFASI, the kids get to interact with nature. There are several animals for them to see and play with; there are also various activities like horse riding and a playground for kids.

Fees:500 naira for kids.

4. Olumo Rock

Take your kids hiking and allow them to explore one of Nigeria’s wonders. They will not only get the adrenaline rush that comes with rock climbing, but also learn about the history of the Egba people.

Fees: 500 Naira for kids.

5. Omu Resort

Omu resort is a fun and family friendly recreational and entertainment center with a zoo, amusement park, water park, quad bike, go-kart, paintball and more. It offers various attractions, so your kids will definitely love it.

6. Hi-Impact Planet

The park pitches itself as a world class theme park, like the Disneyland of Nigeria. They have various thrilling outdoor and indoor rides to keep your kids fully entertained. The park also has hotels for families to lodge at.

7. Lekki Conservation Centre

Lekki Conservation Centre is an offshoot of Nigerian Conservation Foundation. It is a forest and wildlife conservation centre that is now famous for housing the longest canopy walkway in Africa. The kids can enjoy the open play area, the animals, ponds and the tree house.

Fees: N300 for kids. Canopy walkway fee is N1000.
