Life in Nigeria gets busy and sometimes it seems like you can never catch a break. If this is how you are feeling, then it just might be that time of the year where you book a holiday with a couple of friends, your family or that special one. And South Africa might just be that ideal getaway destination.

The affordability and mere six-hour journey make for a quick in and out. The amazing thing about this country is it offers every kind of experience for the most discerning of travellers: adventure, relaxation, romance and lifestyle can all be found here. So, if you’re looking to build your itinerary, we’ve got you covered.

Here are five activities that top our list of things to do in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Fancy private rides in a  helicopter

The Bergsig Game Farm located in the small city of George only a 45-minute flight from Cape Town comes complete with a helipad where one can book for private helicopter rides over the game farm. Expect a panoramic view of the big five mammals like the buffalo and rhinoceros and over 30 different species of birds. You can also enjoy a tranquil game drive by professional game rangers either by the open vehicle game drives on quad bikes along the scenic route. Either way, it’s a win-win!

Do the hand in trunk elephant walks

This is not a drill! The Elephant Sanctuary located in Crags, Plettenberg Bay is an experience you can’t afford to miss out on. The magnificent African elephants stand at over 3.3 metres above ground level yet, they are the most accommodating creatures. They let you walk them by their trunks and if you’re incredibly nice, they might even plant a kiss or two on your cheek. Complete the experience by taking a ride on your favourite elephant which will happen for a short period of ten to 15 minutes. Remember to wear flat walking shoes, sun hats and bring your camera to make the most out of the experience.

Visit one of the seven wonders of the world

Head out to Cape Town to visit Table Mountain which is a flat-topped mountain that has become an iconic landmark overlooking the city and serves as one of the world’s seven wonders of nature. Sitting at a height of over 3,653 feet you can treat yourself to cable rides to the top of mountain and take in the view of the entire city from the infinitely green landscape to the vineyards, surrounding mountains and hill tops.  You are guaranteed to be held spell-bound as the view is picturesque.

Boat cruise with freshly made oysters

Cruising on a yacht isn’t just fancy, it’s therapeutic. It is certainly one of the best ways to relax after a hectic period of work. Retreating to get some rest and good old you time? Then you should try unwinding on a yacht. An added bonus is enjoying a plate of freshly made oysters as you take in the scenery and witnessing your body relax as it becomes one with nature.

Power boating in Knysna

Are you a thrill-seeker? Located in George is a small town called Knysna which can be found along South Africa’s famed garden route and should be on your travel list. The town is most famous for its oyster festival, warm people and the most magnificent views from Leisure Isle to the Knysna Heads. On this trip, you can experience a vast array of bird and marine life as well as breath-taking scenery like the Buffalo Bay, Noetzie Castles and beautiful surroundings. Go on a power boat ride through the Knysna Heads and down the Knsyna Estuary and enjoy as the lagoon cruise offers you a view of the mountains by the clear blue waters.
