The Drake curse is truly a thing. For the uninitiated, here’s the gist: it is believed that once the Canadian rapper takes a photograph with a sportsman, boom, the team of the sportsperson loses. Yep, just like that.

In 2015, Serena Williams lost to little-known Roberta Vinci with Drake in her corner; Connor McGregor, who spent time and was photographed with the rapper, lost to  Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Italian Serie A club Roma clearly got the gist and has banned all its players from taking pictures with the Canadian rapper until the end of the season.

Roma, who are one point outside Champions League qualification spots, look to pursue every means to secure points with six games left. There’s the real and present fear of the Drake curse, so banning photos with Drake seems a wise pre-emptive step.

Still don’t believe in the Drake curse? Here are some examples.

The most recent was when PSG left back, Layvin Kurzawa posted a photo of himself with the rapper. What followed next was a 5-1 humbling at the hands of Lille, a club PSG was leading with 20 points.

Remember Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Wolves in the FA Cup? Paul Pogba took a picture with Drake before that match.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang also was a subject of the curse after he took a picture with Drake. Arsenal with a chance of moving up the log lost against Everton with Aubameyang firing blanks.

Aguero might have wished he didn’t take a photo with Drake before the Champions League tie against Tottenham Hotspurs. He lost a penalty and his team, Manchester City, lost the game.

Jadon Sancho’s Borussia Dortmund also suffered a 5-0 shellacking in the hands of Bayern Munich after the young winger was photographed with Drake.

We all love Drake and want to hang and take selfies with him, but except you have some free three points to hand out, take the Roma path: ban your players from taking that costly photo.
