You may have noticed a couple of things taking place in the fashion sphere recently, certain looks or styles that aren’t worn by everyone, but keep popping up…well, we call these fashion fads. Literally defined as something that quickly gains popularity and either becomes a full on trend followed by the masses or fades just as quickly as it came. Read on to discover some of this year’s fashion fads you need to know about.

Textured fashion

In Nigeria, we’ve always loved embellishment and appliqué on our clothing, but recently, designers are upping the ante by putting a new spin on things. From sheared fabric pieces to create texture, to full-on embellishment, the texture fashion fad is one of our favourites.

Logo tees

I don’t know if it’s fair to call logo tees a mini trend as they’ve always been around. However, 2017 has seen a resurgence for cheeky logo tees, with captions often saying things that the wearer wishes they could say! Whether worn casually or paired with more formal pieces, logo tees are the micro trend that sticks.

Turbans

As with logo tees, turbans are in no way a new fashion invention. They have however grown massively in popularity in recent times and not just for the Muslimahs amongst us. Worn in the same way a woman wears a pair of earrings, turbans have quickly become the style du jour for many, for wearing as a part of aso ebi instead of tying head-squeezing geles or even just to hide a bad hair day. What’s not to love about them?
