Today’s spotlight focuses on a man I consider to be one of Nigeria’s most-prized entertainment jewels. It’s easy for a lot of people to claim to be multi-talented. They may even be so to a certain extent. But few do it as well as Emmanuel Edunjobi, more popularly known as “EmmaOhMaGod”.

Emmanuel Edunjobi is a musician, TV Presenter, comedian and MC and a producer who has come a long way from the days of playing a wooden flute as a child. I first stumbled upon EmmaOhMaGod’s Instagram account one night when I was bored and looking for something to keep me entertained. You know how you get lost in the Instagram rabbit hole, just watching one video that leads to another one? That was how I landed on Emma’s page, and happened to see a short clip of his ‘You Too Dey Lie’ video – which was a parody of Davido’s ‘Aye’.  I laughed so hard, I had to go watch the whole video on his YouTube Channel.

Emmanuel once revealed that he studied Electrical and electronics engineering in Covenant University because he couldn’t go abroad to study Sound Engineering. I believe the fact that he didn’t let this stop him from chasing his dreams is a considerable show of strength in character. Even The Herald has celebrated him as a star on the rise.

It’s one thing to be funny, but it’s another thing to be able to translate your comedy through various media. Emma has been able to find a way to cut across every age and relevant sector through his videos, his job as an On-Air Personality, and now a TV Presenter. He could have very easily stopped at telling jokes on air, or doing short parodies of other people’s songs and random skits, but that’s not the type of person Emma is. He goes above and beyond to ensure that every form of comedic greatness he puts forth is memorable. Examples of such works are the ‘If Beyonce Was Nigerian’ video which was an edit of the ‘Single Ladies’ video with a fuji soundtrack, his ‘Chris Brown in Ojuelegba’ video, and the ‘Aye’ remix previously mentioned.  I think my favourite thing is the fact that he actually shoots full, well thought-out videos for the parodies he does.

EmmaOhMaGod’s Youtube Channel, which has over 14,000 subscribers, doesn’t only contain parodies of local and international songs, but original skits ranging from less than a minute to even fifteen minutes long. You may be hesitant to watch a skit that’s fifteen minutes long but, trust me, every one of them is worth it. His skits all reflect a little bit of something every day Nigerians deal with at one point in their lives. So, you watch it and laugh, but at the same time you’re thinking “This is so true!”.

Emmanuel is an embodiment of what it means to have a dream and work towards it. Talent is often not enough and we have to work hard to make sure our talent takes us where we want to go. Today, EmmaOhMyGod is not just an OAP or “Instagram comedian”. He is a TV presenter for EbonyLife TV, and has established himself as a premiere source of comedic content and entertainment.
