SoundCloud has redesigned its home screen to allow users see more music from its independent music creators. SoundCloud has been struggling for a couple of years and had to lay off 40% of its staff and secure $169 million in emergency funding.

The new home screen also features song collections sorted by genre and curated playlists. The newly featured playlists include titles like Hip Hop Supreme, DJ-mixed tracks in In The Mix, 2017 Most Liked tracks, and 2018 Artists to Watch. It also has a new feature called ‘The Upload” which is a daily personalized playlist curated based on your previous or most frequent listens.

Kerry Trainor, new CEO of SoundCloud had this to say about the changes.

“What differentiates SoundCloud is our catalog of over 170 million tracks, and new home lets us elevate and celebrate the incredible talent that drives the SoundCloud experience”

This update should help the company to compete with rivals like Spotify, Apple, Google, Deezer and Amazon.
