American rapper and songwriter Pop Smoke has tragically been shot and killed in what appears to be a home invasion robbery. He was 20 years old.

According to TMZ,  the rapper was at his home in the Hollywood Hills, California at 4:30am this morning (19 Feb) when two men wearing masks and hoodies broke into his house, the publication claim law enforcement say.

The two suspects reportedly fired multiple shots, “striking and critically wounding” Pop Smoke, whose real name was Bashar Barakah Jackson. The men thereafter fled on foot. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that there was some sort of party or gathering at the house prior to the shooting, but shooters’ motive behind turning up at the house remains unclear.

The “Welcome to the Party” singer was rushed by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood where he was pronounced dead.

Pop Smoke whose real name is Bashar Barakah Jackson released his breakout single “Welcome to the Party” in April 2019. The track was the lead single of his debut mixtape Meet the Woo, which was released in July 2019. “Welcome to the Party” saw official remixes from both Nicki Minaj and Skepta. The rapper also collaborated with Travis Scott on “GATTI” from last year’s JACKBOYS label compilation.
