Offset Talks About Strained Relationship With His Father
In a new interview with Esquire, Atlanta rapper Offset who is 1/3 of The Migos opens up about his relationship with his dad.
Offset and his dad have a strained relationship, Offset explained, describing how when he was a baby, his dad “got into the streets.” The last time the pair spoke was three years ago, when Offset’s career was ballooning. And the last time they spoke before that was on Offset’s 12th birthday.
“I had paper and I couldn’t wait to tell him,” Offset said about the success he found in the beginning of his career. He offered his dad some money, but his dad turned him down, even though he didn’t have a stable living situation. That hurt Offset.
“It just started to make me upset. I’ve reached out and you’ve slapped my hand. You slapped my hand when it wasn’t even out. You didn’t even come back to put anything in my hand. So now I feel like you don’t have any respect for me. You’re still running and you don’t have to,” Offset told Esquire.
The intimate interview arrives in advance of Offset’s debut solo album Father of 4. Now, with the birth of his newest child Kulture Kiari with wife Cardi B, Offset is looking forward to being a positive role model, better than how his dad treated him.
“If my daddy called me right now,” he says, “I’d get on a jet, buy him a house, give him a million dollars, and I won’t talk to him for another ten years. At least I’d know he’s straight.”
His highly anticipated album “Father of 4” dropped at midnight.
