Nigerians Demand Justice For The Death Of Vera Uwaila
In the early hours of today, the hashtag #justiceforuwa# trended on twitter following the death of Vera Uwaila, a 22-year-old lady, who was raped and murdered in a Redeemed Christian Church of God in Benin City.
Uwa was said to have visited the RCCG, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin to read on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. She was reported to be in the church auditorium when some men attacked her, raped her, hit her head with a fire extinguisher cylinder then left her for dead.
The lady died after three days in the hospital as a result of the injury sustained.
Nigerians took to their social media to demand justice and seek that the state government brings the culprit to book. Below are some of the reactions.
Women talk about men raping them everyday and they are blamed for being in the wrong place, dating wrong men, wearing revealing clothes, but Uwa was reading in a church, what is your excuse this time? What is your excuse? My heart hurts! I want justice for her #JusticeForUwa

1.
I have ordered the Nigeria Police Force ( @PoliceNG ) to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). #JusticeForUwa— Godwin Obaseki (GGO) (@GovernorObaseki) May 31, 2020
If RCCG won’t say anything or make a statement about the murder in one of their branches, I can understand they trying to do their investigation … but stil tweeting about offerings and all that BS is sooo disturbing! Don’t you have value for life anymore? 💔💔 #JusticeForUwa

For all you wicked perverted men who don’t respect women, don’t revere their opinions or regard them as having the same rights & privileges as you, be informed that the world has moved from the early days- women are our equals if not superiors. We must seek #JusticeForUwa
