The #EndSARS Campaign has been ongoing for some time with protests held in different parts of the country such as Lagos and Abuja. The campaign is an expression of citizen’s frustration without galvanised action.

The issue of police brutality and criminality predate SARS has taken a toll as many Nigerian youths are harassed each day by these operatives whose duty is to serve and protect the masses but the reverse seems to be the order of the day.

An average Nigerian teenager or youth moves about in fear as at least five “alleged” reports come in daily concerning SARS harassment and bullying. With foreign news sites like CNN and BBC weighing in on the topic, it would seem as though the bad has overweighed the good of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Amidst the ongoing social media #EndSARS campaign, where citizens have shared their SARS and Nigerian Police brutality and harassment experiences, the response of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yomi Shogunle, has often been described as inconsiderate to the struggles of the average Nigerian youth.

In a recent tweet, a twitter handler @KAAKAKI3 tweeted at the ASP:

This tweet is characteristic of the head of The Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) of the Nigeria Police Force who has been severally accused of responding unfairly to the complaints of Nigerians.
