Blood sugar levels are very sensitive, especially to diabetic patients. A spike in sugar levels could lead to fatigue, increased urination and thirst. On the flip side, if monitored too closely, blood sugar levels could get too low and can cause weakness, lack of coordination and dizziness. It’s very important to keep a healthy balance and these are some of the ways you can achieve that.

  • Eat Wholegrain Foods

Eating wholegrain foods or foods made from whole grain is extremely helpful for maintaining sugar levels. Foods like oats, wheat and corn have a high fibre content and this helps keep the stomach full thereby increasing the interval between the next meal. This generally results in a lower sugar content, although, these foods are still carbohydrates and will ultimately increase your sugar content a little bit. They should be consumed moderately unless the subject has a low sugar content.

  • Snack on Nuts

Walnuts, groundnuts, almond nuts and other members of the nut are great for controlling blood sugar. They contain healthy fats that slow down the body’s absorption of sugar. However, it’s important to be careful with nut consumption especially for people with low sugar content.

  • Do Not Drink On An Empty Stomach

Most people hear doctors and health professionals mention this but do not know the reason why. When the body consumes alcohol, blood sugar drops for at least 24 hours because the body is trying to get rid of it. Before drinking alcohol make sure you’ve eaten first because sometimes symptoms of low blood sugar like dizziness and lack of coordination could be mistaken for drunkenness.

  • Do Not Miss Meals

This goes without saying but needs to be mentioned for emphasis. Skipping a meal can cause serious imbalances in your sugar levels especially when it’s breakfast. Eating healthy three times a day will help keep sugar levels balanced.

  • Eat Your Veggies

Always make sure you don’t skip your vegetables. They contain fibre and healthy nutrients that are essential for maintaining sugar levels and general well-being.
