In Chimamanda Adichie’s New Story, Melania Trump Is Lonely And Obsessed With Michelle Obama
In the world of Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the first lady of the United States of America, Melania Trump, is listless and a little bit racist.
Adichie, who covered the New York Times Style Magazine, was featured in as one of “The Greats”.
In her story titled Janelle Asked to the Bathroom, the writer imagines an exchange between the characters Mrs T and Janelle, her black Pilates instructor.
Adichie was commissioned by the NYT to write a short story during the American Presidential elections, which was won by Donald Trump. Her story, The Arrangements, focused on her feelings concerning Donald Trump, his wife Melania and daughter Ivanka. This new story extends the world she created then.
In the story told from Janelle’s point of view, the instructor has a brief uncomfortable exchange with a despondent Mrs T in her apartment bedroom. Mrs T reveals her obsession with Michelle Obama, even showing Janelle a folder full of saved photos of the first lady of the US.
