Jidenna Theodore Mobisson better known by his performing name Jidenna has asked Africans to stop point accusing fingers at the Whites for introducing homosexuality to Africans saying the act has been on the continent for long.

The Nigerian-American rapper in a recent interview with Sway Universe opined that there is falsehood in the notion that homosexuality found its way into Africa through foreign influence.

Speaking about how homosexuality can be traced to ancient Africa, the ’85 To Africa’ crooner said:

“You hear these African leaders who are dressed in three-piecesuits, got an iPhone, speaking in English and not their native tongue are saying, ‘it’s unafrican to be homosexual, it’s unafrican… we don’t have it. That was brought as a European import.’ It’s not true. It’s not true at all,” said Jidenna, a Stanford graduate who spent the first ten years of his life in Nigeria.

“You got Uganda, the kingdom of Buganda at the time… Before Uganda, there was an openly gay king. If you go to Zimbabwe… the bushmen as they call them, you’ll see homosexual acts in the Cape paintings. If you go to different communities in Africa, there were different rights of passage where if a woman was with a woman, or a man was with a man, they were thought to be more powerful. There was never a time where this didn’t exist.”

He added:

“There was never a time where this didn’t exist. Or where it was just hands down that homosexuals were wrong. That’s not actual an African thing, which means it’s not a Black thing.

The issue of homosexuality in Africa has been a controversial one and in Nigeria as well as many African countries, there are laws criminalising homosexuality. In 2014, the Nigerian senate passed into law, the anti-same-sex bill which criminalises homosexual practises in the country with offenders facing up to 14 years in jail.

Jidenna on his part has expressed controversial views in recent times as we earlier reported that the ‘Sufi Woman’ recently said during an interview on The Breakfast Club that Nigerians are known for scam is because they are smarter than a lot of people. He said,

“The reason why Nigerians are known for scamming is not because we are bad people but because we are smarter than a lot of people. So, as criminals, we gonna be the best at it and so, we will be the best at hacking and everything we do.”
