Forbes has listed Jay-Z, Diddy and Dre as the “the three wealthiest hip-hop artistes” in the world and the “richest American musicians of any genre”.

With $900 million from Jay-Z, Diddy falls to number 2 on the list with $825 million while Dr Dre takes the third spot with $770 million. This will be the first time Jay-Z will clinch this since the Forbes list began

This figure might change this summer due to the $100 million Dr Dre is expecting to receive depending on the share price of Apple by summer.

Drake, the youngest on the list is at a tie with Eminem with earnings of $100 million.

They owe their wealth to multiple sources of income and investments in the vodka, cable, Apple’s acquisition of Beats, Tidal, Roc Nation collectively.

Unlike the others, Eminem gets his earnings from being the best-selling rapper of all time and having more albums in the genre than any other artiste in the same genre in the 2000s.

To arrive at this list, Forbes used the procedures of “valuing major assets, poring over financial documents, and speaking with analysts, attorneys, managers, other industry players and, in some cases, and the moguls”
