Nigerian food can be a bit too high on carbs and oils, so sometimes it’s necessary to try out healthier options that won’t dig too deep into your pockets.  We decided to check out Wrap City, known for advocating a healthy selection of fresh meals that can easily replace fast food. They are located at Fourteen36 Mall, 1436 Sanusi Fafunwa, Victoria Island, Lagos.

We ordered our meal over the phone; their menu consisted of a variety of wraps, salads and smoothies, with suitable options for vegetarians. Most meals cost below N 2000, although they did not have most of the options we initially wanted, the ordering process was fairly easy. They explained that it would take about 30 minutes to prepare, so it is possible to just pop by and wait for your order to be ready.

Upon arrival, the place was observed to be quite small as it could only fit about 10-15 people. As it was almost noon on Wednesday, the space was quite empty allowing us to admire the beautifully placed mural on the wall, which added an artsy vibe to the place.

All wrapped up

Cook-out Chicken Wrap – The wrap did not live up to my expectations and this is stemming from the fact that I’ve had this same wrap from their previous spot at Fola Osibo in Lekki Phase One. The wrap consisted of grilled chicken breast with BBQ sauce, onions, green pepper, red pepper, tomato and lettuce. It was a decent wrap; the chicken was dry and for a wrap that supposedly has BBQ sauce and peppers as ingredients I didn’t get that spicy kick. As mentioned earlier I’ve had a tasty and juicy wrap, so I’m guessing they had a bad day on this particular day.

Mexican Chicken Wrap – The meal comprised of grilled chicken breast, with garlic yogurt sauce, avocado, salsa onion, green pepper, red pepper, lettuce and cheese. Being a huge fan of avocado, I was looking forward to the combo but to my surprise I couldn’t quite taste the avocado. The chicken was well seasoned but not spicy, also it was smaller than I had imagined, so I ordered a tuna and egg salad to go with it.

Tuna, Egg & Sweetcorn Salad- Although the salad was beautifully layered, I found that I was unhappy with ratio of veggies to protein. By the time I had gone half way through the salad, I realised that the eggs and tuna were finished. The cream was just right and seemed appropriate for the salad.

Sunny delight

Orange, Pineapple and Mango Smoothie-The smoothie on the other hand is probably one of the best mixes I’ve had in 2017 and it’s not overpriced for the quality of fruits used in making the health drink. Although I found their smoothie options to be boring, I enjoyed the freshness of smoothie and roughage that settled at the bottom of the drink.  I love the fact that I could still feel the pulp of the fruits used. Also it didn’t at any point just become a watery mixture at the bottom. The texture of the drink was consistent all through.

Our Verdict

Overall, we found that the food was generally good but we agreed to opt for a spicier wrap option next time. It’s also a better option for snacking and the ambience is ideal for a lunch break if you work on the Island.  The payment process was not as smooth as it could have been, because their POS was taken for a food delivery, ideally they should have two POS machines for payments in-house and delivery.

Mexican Chicken Wrap: N1600    The Cook-Out: N1200     Tuna, Egg and Sweetcorn salad: N1200

Orange, Pineapple and Mango Smoothie: N900
