This spicy and flavourful broth is best served with rice. It’s a nice combo for when you want to give yourself a treat – especially if you are a catfish lover. Your family will definitely love this treat as it is different from the regular household dishes.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • A handful of diced tomatoes
  • 3 cups shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Minced 4 cubes beef bouillon
  • A handful of sliced okra
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dry crab boil
  • 2 pounds catfish fillets, adequately cut into pieces
  • 5 cups hot water

Preparation

  • Chop all fresh spice on the list above and set aside.
  • Warm oil in medium heat; stir in onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic.
  • Cook until soft, about 10 minutes.
  • Dissolve bouillon cubes in hot water and add to pot.
  • Add tomatoes, okra, shrimp and stir. Season with salt, cayenne pepper, thyme, bay leaves, and crab boil.
  • Bring to a boil; cover, and allow to simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Add the catfish to the pot, cover and allow to simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Remove and serve with boiled white or brown rice.
