Golden Globes Allegedly Ignores Female Directors And Barbra Streisand Isn’t A Fan
Barbra Streisand isn’t one to hide her views when she has the opportunity to voice her opinions and this year’s Golden Globes any different. The four-time Golden Globe winner called out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for not acknowledging female filmmakers when she got on stage to present the last award of the night.
Being the only woman to have won the award for her film Yentl back in 1984, she said this as she got on stage to present the award for best drama. “Backstage I heard they said I was the only woman … to get the best director award, and you know, that was 1984: That was 34 years ago. Folks, time’s up! We need more women directors and more women to be nominated for best director. There are so many films out there that are so good directed by women.”
Natalie Portman who presented the award for the best director category also made a reference to this fact by saying “And here are the all-male nominees.”

Before finally presenting her award Streisand added, “I’m very proud to stand in a room with people who speak out against gender inequality, sexual harassment, and the pettiness that has poisoned our politics. I’m proud that our industry, faced with uncomfortable truths, has vowed to change the way we do business.”
