Other events on the line-up that captured the hearts and attention of Lagosians and the world over the course of the week were the Learn to Play events, Learn to DJ events, Home Studio events, Music Business Conference, My Song Is Your Song, DJ Online Party, and the Live From Home Concerts.

The Learn to Play events were hosted by partners, Rainbow Fingers Academy, Chrysolite Musical Consult, Zadeking Music School, Saxgold, Gbolahan Odukoya and renowned Vocal Coach Ige Sings, who gave free lessons to music enthusiasts on playing Keyboards, Saxophones, Drums, Guitars as well as vocal lessons.

The Learn to DJ events had insightful learning sessions hosted by DJ Horphuray, DJ Ernesty, DJ Nana, DJ Cypha, and award-winning DJ Obi- who hosted an extended live Q & A session.

The Home Studio events were really innovative as music fans submitted sounds that were produced into a mix or music by MML partner producers- Olaitan Dada, Wole Adesanya, SMJ, and DJ Klem- with the entire production process being streamed live for all to view.

An industry favourite for the 2020 edition of MML was the Music Business Conference which had 2 panels with extensive discussions on the issues of talent development, distribution and monetization of music against the backdrop of the disruption that COVID-19 has had on the industry. On the panels were: Bez (Music Artiste & Cofounder Music & Tech Space), Tayo Akinyemi (Showgear Limited), Godwin Tom (Imanage Africa), Tokunbo Komolafe (ACAS Law), and Damola Giwa (Spinlet).

My Song Is Your Song event, a new addition to the MML line-up, was a global song swap by artists who performed covers of each other’s songs. Over 80 artistes participated in this collaborative event.

Another new addition was the 2-hour Friday night DJ Online party by Zannoza entertainment which featured DJ Cypha and Hypeman- Temisan Ikomi. There were lots of MML t-shirt and phone airtime giveaways.

And with the absence of live concerts across Lagos due to the pandemic, the Live from Home Concerts filled the void with over 60 live performances by musicians and bands on the online platforms of artistes and various host partners.

Adeola Akinyemi, Chair of the MML organizing team and Showgear COO, had this to say about the celebration, “As a team, we are thankful that we were able to pull off the 2020 edition of Make Music Lagos despite the pandemic restrictions. Above all, we are happy that we were able to contribute positively to the music industry; our city, Lagos; and country, Nigeria.”

Make Music Lagos 2020 was supported by TVC, Max FM, African Movie Channel, Accelerate TV, Cool Fm, and a host of other partners. And the organizing team is led by SHOWGEAR and its partners: IMPREVA INTERNATIONAL, ZANNOZA ENTERTAINMENT, IPC EVENTS, and LEGACY PLANET.
