Milan Fashion Week’s most epic runway model moment has happened and it couldn’t have been more monumental.

At Versace’s Spring 2018 show, Donatella Versace shut it all down with a supermodel reunion of epic proportions. By bringing back Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni, and Helena Christensen, in glittering gold lame no less, to the cheers of the audience—and reviving the house’s signature silk prints in the same fell swoop—Versace reinforced its reputation for showmanship.

Other brands may have culled inspiration from the ’90s, but Versace was part of what defined the era. While nothing can ever recreate the spark of Evangelista, Turlington, Crawford, and Campbell lip-syncing down the runway to the strains of “Freedom! ’90,” the reemergence of the original supermodels provided Milan with a welcome jolt of energy.

“This is a celebration of a genius. This is a celebration of an icon. This is a celebration of my brother,” Donatella said.

In memory of Italian fashion designer, Gianni Versace, Donatella Versace reunited with the original cast of ’90s supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer for a special 20th-anniversary showcase at Milan Fashion Week S/S 18.

She used prints from her brother’s collections between 1991 and 1995 as the basis for this Versace Spring 2018 collection.

“The silhouettes are all new because the shapes from those days look dated today,” she said.

She added: “Except the leggings. Everyone loves the leggings again. The models like Gigi and Bella are always asking me where they can get the nineties Versace leggings.”

She decided on his famously exuberant prints as the best homage to her brother because “Gianni was all about joy, and so full of life, and the prints really express that spirit”.

Leopard from the Animaliercollection of 1992, Greek keys from the Baroque collection of 1991 and Marilyn screenprints from the 1991 Warhol show were revisited for this season.
