The Elite Model Look competition is probably the most prestigious modelling competition in Africa. The auditions happened on the 15th of August, 2015 and yours truly was there to cover the auditions.

I came a bit early to witness the preparations as I’m not big on the whole African time, plus it almost rained all day and that added to the auditions not kicking off in no time.

The buzz was amazing, the amount of models with dreams just made it a pleasant sight to watch, knowing that two people there would have their lives changed a s a result of this day. Everybody was nervous and they had a very good reason to be. It is Elite Model Look!! People came in from Ghana, Cameroon, London and places you’ve probably not heard of and it was lovely to have them at the every busy Eko Hotel And Suites. Certainly not child’s play.

First of all they had to go through a stage I’d like to call ‘ Know-Your-Height’, the height requirements for the ladies was 5’8 and 5’11 for the boys and most people didn’t meet up to it. This first stage of the audition filtered the number of over a thousand to about 400, if not more.

The people who were chosen were marked and they wrote their names and got their numbers. After that they were expected to walk, show their Polaroid pictures and hopefully hear their numbers to qualify them to the next round.

Meeting the judges before it started, I asked about their mindsets on choosing models during the auditions. Tokyo James British Nigerian Menswear Brand &Creative Director said he was looking for great faces to export to the rest of the world, faces that can book some of the world’s biggest campaigns. Kike Togbe Editor In Chief MADC said she was excited to see what Nigeria has to offer from the pool of models  at the moment and also see the new face of modeling. Elohor Aisien Founder of Beth Model Management Africa said she is looking for the perfect super model that can represent Nigeria in the modeling industry, like Mayowa and Victor did last year.

Due to the rain and the legendary Island traffic, Bukky Karibi-Whyte of Bobby Taylor, Mayowa Nicholas and Victor Ndigwe Elite Model Look Winners 2014 joined the judges table during the auditions.
